Our publication titled “Growing Metaverse Sector Can Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 10 Gt CO2e in the United States by 2050” in Energy & Environmental Science was selected as the front cover of June 2023 issue of Energy & Environmental Science. A 2022 PEESE publication titled “Mining Bitcoins with Carbon Capture and Renewable Energy for Carbon Neutrality Across States in the USA.” in Energy & Environmental Science was selected as the back cover of September 2022 issue of Energy & Environmental Science. The graphic art is presented in the middle of the 2nd row. This is PEESE’s 3rd cover art in the journal: previous ones include Jian Gong’s paper on perovskite PV sustainability analysis and earlier work on PV technoeconomic aspects. This work on sustainable crypto mining was reported by some news media, including but are not limited to, the ones below:

AIChE Journal, the official journal of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, published a Perspective article from PEESE, in collaboration with NASA and ExxonMobil through a public-private-academic partnership, titled “Perspectives of Quantum Computing for Chemical Engineering” (AIChE Journal, 68, e17651). The article is also featured on the cover of June 2022 issue of AIChE Journal. See the top row of the cover art on the right. A lay summary of this Perspective article was published by Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP).
Another cover art in AIChE Journal on the left of the first row is for our paper featured on the cover of January 2023 issue of AIChE Journal. The paper is titled “Targeting climate-neutral hydrogen production: Integrating brown and blue pathways with green hydrogen infrastructure via a novel superstructure and simulation-based life cycle optimization” (AIChE Journal, 69, e17956). A lay summary of this Perspective article was also published by Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP).
Our collaborative project with the Clinton Foundation on sustainability of pharmaceutical products is reported via a recent article titled “Environmental Sustainability of the Globalized Pharmaceutical Supply Chains: The Case of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate” in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering. In March 2021, our paper titled “Sustainable Residential Micro-Cogeneration System Based on a Fuel Cell Using Dynamic Programming-Based Economic Day-Ahead Scheduling” (ACS Sustainable Chem. Two graduate students from Prof. José María Ponce-Ortega’s group, Aurora de Fátima Sánchez-Bautista and José Ezequiel Santibañez-Aguilar, visited PEESE in 2016. Their research work on pollution trading to improve the sustainability of energy systems was selected to feature on the cover of the March 2017 issue of ACS Sustainable Chem. Eng.
