AIChE Fellow, George Lappin Award, & Sotirchos Award

Fengqi You was recently elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) by the AIChE Board of Directors. AIChE is the world’s leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, with more than 60,000 members from over 110 countries. The grade of AIChE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and awarded to members in recognition of significant professional accomplishments and contributions in engineering. Elected fellows must have significant chemical engineering experience (generally 25 years) and have demonstrated significant service to the engineering profession. Professor You was elected in Age 38 based on his research and educational accomplishments, as well as his service to AIChE and the engineering community worldwide. This honor reaffirms the high esteem with which the colleagues and peers view Professor You’s distinctive professional achievements and accomplishments. Professor You will be officially recognized for this significant achievement in a special event at the upcoming AIChE Annual Meeting for all AIChE Fellows to attend.

In addition to AIChE Fellow, Professor Fengqi You is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and has won 15 national/international awards over the past five years from the AIChE, American Chemical Society (ACS), American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and American Automatic Control Council (AACC).

In the same month, Professor You was notified that he was selected by the AIChE Executive Committee award selection panel to receive the 2022 AIChE George Lappin Program Committee Service Award. The award letter from AIChE states that the award selection panel was very appreciative of Professor You’s long-term and wide-ranging programming efforts in AIChE, and felt that he embodies the award criteria, which include (1) meritorious service on behalf of AIChE technical programming, (2) effectiveness and value of programming services to AIChE and its members, (3) compliance to the true spirit of volunteerism, (4) dedication to the profession of chemical engineering, and (5) significant record of extraordinary efforts in support of technical information exchange. Professor You was specially recognized for his outstanding contributions to AIChE’s technical programming activities of multiple divisions related to computing and systems technologies, sustainability, and environment that demonstrate great enthusiasm, spirit of volunteerism and dedication to serving the chemical engineering community. Professor You will be officially recognized at a special award ceremony at the upcoming AIChE annual meeting for this award.

In the same week, Professor You was selected to receive the prestigious 2022 Stratis V. Sotirchos Lectureship Award given by The Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). This award was created to honor the memory of Professor Sotirchos, who was a distinguished Researcher and former FORTH/ICE-HT Research Director. One awardee is selected every two years by a committee of internationally renowned scientists on the grounds of candidates’ original and fundamentally important results in chemical engineering sciences. The selection of the most deserving candidate is made on an international basis and strictly on merit. Former recipients of this award include leaders in the chemical engineering community. Professor You will receive his award in a special ceremony during the 13th Panhellenic Chemical Engineering Conference on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Conference and Cultural Center of the University of Patras and will deliver an award lecture.
